Reading Explorer 2, Vocabulary Practice

New Vocabulary: 

Crop: plant grown for food

To strike: to hit (literally and figuratively)

Solely: for one purpose

Famine: a situation where people have no food

Scale: a system of measurement

Extinct: all members of a species are dead or don’t exist anymore

Varieties: types of something

There is a variety of nationalities in this classroom. 

Suggested = gave advice

Continents = large land masses; still debating how many exist

Historic = important in history; Philadelphia has many historic/historical places. 

A marketplace = an outdoor place that sells food and other materials; a country’s entire economy

Flavor = how something tastes

People have an addiction to food with sugary flavors

Appearance = how something looks
