1. Voracious = a strong desire/does something in
great amounts
*Mr. Nate has a voracious
appetite. He loves to eat all of the
time. He is also a voracious
reader.
2. Dense
= thick; filled with something
*This textbook is quite dense (the
book has a lot of information and words).
*I can’t drive now because the fog is
dense.
3. Aspiration
= a goal of yours
Aspire = to dream of a goal
*I aspire to become the Mayor of
Philadelphia. That is my
aspiration.
*What are your aspirations in
life?
4. Endeavor
= task or assignment for a specific purpose
*What kind of endeavors does your
manager have you doing at work?
*An important endeavor my manager
made me do was balance the budget
5. Florid
= complicated; filled with many parts
6. Lofty
= high
*the teacher said he will try and run
for President someday. He has such lofty
goals for his life.
7. Oration
= the ability to speak, especially when it comes to making speeches
8. Acclaim
= high praise; people saying great things about someone or something
*That movie has received a lot of
acclaim from the critics, and that is why it is nominated for 10 Oscars.
*The book got a lot of acclaim for
its realistic depiction of life in 1960s America.
9. Crave
= strongly desire
*I crave a Chicago deep-dish pizza
right now.
*I crave cheese too much. This is my Achilles heel.
*I am a voracious reader because I
crave knowledge.
*I have a craving for traditional
cooking from my family.
