Reading and Writing, the Tornado and Concluding Sentences

Slender = thin

Descend = to go down from somewhere

Ascend = go up something

Spinning = go around in a circle

Roar = the sound a lion/tiger makes

*The wind is roaring today outside. 

 

The passage describes a tornado. 

The paragraph is written in simple past. 

Five senses: sound (the tornado’s extreme winds roared like a wild animal). 

                    sight: slender, delicate

List of adjectives: long = it’s a very big/strong tornado

                              Slender = it’s not wide, it’s a slim tornado

                              Horrible = it makes you afraid of the tornado

                               Deadly = it gives a scary image

                              Huge = it shows how strong the storm is

                              Extreme = extraordinary or very huge and strong and dangerous

 

I went to my bed and felt its soft feathery surface on my body.

 

 

It was a normal day when suddenly dark black clouds formed on the horizon.  They filled the sky and made it dark like the middle of the night.  Suddenly, there was a loud crack of thunder bursting in the distance.  Lightning began to flash like a camera throughout the sky.  The wind began roaring like an angry lion, and the trees branches waved their arms back and forth wildly.  The rain came down in large buckets from the sky, drenching the land with endless water.  I hid under my bed because I was so frightened.  I hope I never see such a terrible storm again.   

 

 

 

Keane and James had a very unique project.  They wanted to create their own tribe, so they went online and recruited people from different countries to take part in their project.  Then, they went to Vorovoro in Fiji and with the permission of Tui Mali, a local tribe leader, helped develop the community.  Now, they are doing the same in other countries.  It is a very special project.

 

People will need to change these habits for a better social life. 

People might not change this, however, because people will continue to use too much social media.

Online information is the best.

For these reasons, going online is the best choice for news. 

Online news is superior to other places.

 

Philly is an interesting place to live.  It has nice museums you can visit…..There are great restaurants to eat at…..There are good places to learn English…..So, for these reasons, Philly is very fascinating to people.

 

The weather over the last month has been very inconsistent.  Some days, it’s real cold and you need to wear a jacket.  For example, when some of you first came here, you complained how cold Philly is all of the time.  But, then, sometimes it gets really hot and sunny, and you just need a t-shirt and shorts.  But, then the next day, it’s cold again.  (Re-state the main idea)  The weather in Philly is crazy! The weather in Philly surprises everyone.  Philly weather makes no sense!  The Philly weather is so strange!
