1.   Defy labels = impossible to describe or define

*My friend defies labels.  It’s impossible to say what kind of person he/she is. 

 A pioneer = the first in an area or field to do something

 Mastermind = the person who came up with an idea or plan

 Innate = a skill or talent that is natural to you; something you are born with

*      *Something innate is in Nate. 

 Rote memorization = memorize without thinking about it; listen and repeat

Example: Repeat after me!: ELS is the greatest school. 

6.      Depict = to show something as something

*The show depicts the father as a stupid person.  Gumball is depicted as kind of silly. 

That commercial depicts the Four Seasons resort as a wonderful place to stay with your family on vacation.  This guy is depicting that hotel as a really bad place to stay. 

 Ubiquitous = found everywhere

 Mystical = spiritual, a place related to the spirit, a place that brings amazement and wonder

 Scandalous = people in power being involved in bad behavior

 Unequivocally = without doubt

*I unequivocally support your ideas

*How do people depict the USA in your country?
