Using "if" clauses to show cause and effect relationships.

If you study hard (cause), you will have good results (effect)

If you go to another country (cause), you will learn a lot about their culture (effect)

Example: One effect of studying abroad is meeting other cultures.  If you live in another place, you can be exposed to the way other people think about things from other cultures.

Effect Essay Example:

The Effects of Travel

By Nate Feldman

Travel is one of the most important activities humans do.  Every year, according to reports, over 500 million people around the world do some form of travel, either in their country, or to other countries.  Travel is a part of who we are.  What are the effects of this?  How is travel changing our lives?  It affects us in many ways.

First, if you travel, you can improve your businesses success.  You can do that because you will meet other business people from that country.  If you do that, you can expand your business from a local company to an international one.  For example, ELS is an international company.  It has branches in Japan and Panama and Saudi Arabia.  Business people from ELS had to travel to your countries to build these relationships.  So, the travel made ELS a bigger company.

Another effect of travel is you are able to learn a new language where they actually speak it.  If you are in the country that speaks it, you hear how they speak it in an authentic way.  Maybe you read it in a book in your country or saw some videos.  But, if you live in the other place, you see how people really use it every day.

To conclude, travel is very popular and it has many positive effects on people who do it, economically, educationally, and socially.  So, travel as soon as you can.  I’ll buy the ticket for you.

Today in class, we discussed how to write an effect style essay.  The cause style shows why something happens, and the effect style shows the result of this thing.  We went to the computer room (not LTC thank God) and the students wrote an effect style essay for practice.
