Reading and writing Pyramids of Giza, Why we Lie Vocabulary

1.                  Automatically = do something without thinking

2.                  Capacity = how much you are able to do or handle

*The elevator has a capacity of 10 people.  Your brain has the capacity to learn 70 new words a month.

     3. emergence = something that appeared out of nowhere

*The emergence of the internet in the 1990s changed how humans interact with one another. 

4. deceptive = something that tries to lie or pretend to be something else

5. prominent = high reputation or status

*UPenn is a prominent university. 

6. impostor = fake person

7. deceitful = doing things in an untrustworthy way

8. gullible = believe everything  

9. fundamental = basic

10. prone to = something that tends to happen to you

*people in poor conditions are prone to different diseases

11. systematically = based on a system that exists

12. thrive = succeed; do well

*I hope you are all thriving in this program

13. unjust = unfair

*I give lower scores to students from certain countries because I don’t like that country.  I am very unjust. 

*manipulate = to control someone’s mind or emotions

*reassuring = makes you feel good about something you felt bad about

*on track = on the way to doing/accomplishing something

You are on track to making a million dollars. 

*get duped = to be tricked

*a twist = an unexpected event
