English Through Music, Warm-Up Questions

 By Nate Feldman

Here was some vocabulary we learned from the song "Whiskey Glasses" by Morgan Wallen on Friday.

1. Move on = to get over something that bothers or upsets you

Ex. I am really upset about my last quiz grade, but I've got to move on.

2. wear off = when pain goes away

Ex. If I have a headache, I take some motrin and then the pain eventually wears off.

3. making out = kissing with someone

4. make it through = to survive a troubling or bad circumstance

Ex. I don't like my classes this session, but I'll find a way to make it through.

5. sip = small drink of something

6. I ain't = a slang word for "am not, is not, are not"

7. heartbreak proof = something to protect you from heartbreak

In this context, proof means something that protects something from something else.  For example, we can talk about "waterproof carpets" or ones that won't get damage or affected by water.  In the song, he is saying that the whiskey is like "heartbreak proof."  It protects him from the feelings of heartbreak.

Questions for discussion:

1. Is it easy for you to move on from bad things?

2. When you have pain, what do you try to do to have it wear off?

3. When you have big problems, how do you try to make it through these things?

4. Is there anyone who is really heartbreak proof, or is that just a part of life?
