Initiative:
a planned action with a set goal.
*There are
initiatives to reduce carbon emissions by 50% over the next 25 years.
Landmark: famous
location in a country.
*The Liberty
Bell is an iconic landmark in Philadelphia.
Amenity:
added things to a place you stay at (I.e. at a hotel swimming pool, gym, laundry
room etc.)
Complement:
adding something to make something else better or more perfect
*I am taking
classes at ELS, but I do private lessons on weekends to complement this so that
I can become more fluent quickly.
Optimize: to
make the best possible
*I hope you
optimize your time in Philly as much as possible. Besides taking classes, meeting new friends
here is a great way to optimize your experience in the USA.
Don’t judge
a book by its over: don’t assume what another person or place is without
knowing them

What are buildings/places that you
think need to be retrofitted?
Ex. Alumni classes need to be retrofitted with windows so I can see
outside.

What are iconic landmarks that you
would like to visit?

If you are at a hotel, or in an
apartment, what kind of amenities do you like the place to have?

your lessons at ELS?

Do you judge books by their covers? In other words, when you see people or
places, do you assume things about them, or do you get to know them before you
judge them?

A. 4, Purpose: Shows how solar panels generate electricity
B. 3, Purpose: To show the Eiffel Tower’s reduction of energy consumption
after retrofitting

1, Purpose: He wants to show how
popular the Eiffel Tower is; it is more popular with tourists than other iconic
places in the world
D. 2, Purpose: Eiffel Tower is symbolic of Paris’ Green Initiative
