Simple Past Grammar

 

Vowels in English: a, e, i, o, u

Consonants: b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, z

Regular Verbs:

*I worked at ELS yesterday. 

*I called my friend last night. 

*I talked with you after class yesterday. 

*I moved to a different apartment last  month. 

*I stayed in my house last night.

*I studied in class yesterday. 

*I stopped my car in the street. 

*I helped my friend yesterday. 

*I dropped Haotao’s bag. 

*Last year, I bought a present and wrapped it for you. 

 

Questions with verbs in the past tense:

*Did you study last night?

>>Yes, I studied last night.

>>No, I didn’t study last night. 

 

*Did you play soccer yesterday?

>>Yes, I played soccer yesterday.

>>No, I didn’t play soccer yesterday. 

 

*Did you talk to your family last night?

>>>Yes, I talked to my family last night.

>>>No, I didn’t talk to my family last night.

 

For discussion:

*What was the last movie you saw?  Did you like it?

*Did you study last night?

*Did you start something recently?

>>I recently started a new book/I recently started playing music.

*Did you visit any place yesterday?

*What did you need yesterday?

>>Yesterday, I needed milk from the store.

 

My hero is my teacher.  He is very smart and hardworking.  He started at ELS 12 years ago.  At first, he didn’t know a lot about teaching.  But, he worked hard and learned a lot.  In time, he was successful.  I helped him in classes sometimes.  He hired me to be his assistant teacher.  Thank you Mr. Nate!
