A Day at the Beach
For many people, a trip to the shore is the ideal
vacation. On a summer day, you will see large throngs of people gathered
on the beach. In some ways, it is tempting to say that going to the beach
is one of those things that has been overdone, but when you actually arrive
there, you realize why so many people do it.
As you exit your car, the first things you notice are the sounds and the smell. There is the
salty smell of the air coming from the sea. If you go to a tourist beach,
the smell of the sea is accompanied by the smell of food cooking on a
boardwalk. You can smell freshly cooked pizza coming out of the oven, French
fries, and the sweet smell of powdered sugar on funnel cake.
When it comes to the sounds, there is the sounds of seagulls squawking overhead with the loud
crashing of the waves to shore. I have always found these sounds
therapeutic. Just listening to them puts me in a deep, relaxed
trance. If you are in a tourist place, these sounds are accompanied by
the roar of large crowds. Often, you can hear loud music blasting over a
loud speaker somewhere. Some people prefer to be alone at the beach, so
they’d prefer a quieter location, but I actually find the sounds of the crowd
to be comforting. It’s nice to know you are around so many people.
Then, perhaps the loveliest thing there is what you see. If the weather is nice, the sun
shines off the surface of the water like a glowing diamond. When there is
a high tide, the choppy waves come roaring to the shore leaving a white foam at
your feet. But the thing I find most enchanting is staring into the
distance towards the horizon. The water goes on and on until it disappears
at the edge of the sky. If you are facing the east, you will see the sun
rise over the ocean in the morning. It comes up as a giant orange ball
illuminating the area with its grandeur.
So, even though so many people go to the shore on vacation, and it seems unoriginal to do so, there are
great reasons to do it. The sounds, smell, and sights are the most
soothing things you can imagine. Thank you and enjoy the beach!
