MLS Sociology, MLK Day of Service Lesson

Today, we watched a video and listened to an audio about the MLK day of service.  Here are sine questions I asked the class about this.

*Do you have experience volunteering?  If so, how have you volunteered?  If not, what kind of volunteer projects would interest you?

*What kind of legacy would you like to leave on the world?  How do you want people to remember you?

*What kind of philanthropy would you be interested in?  In other words, how would you like to use your money to better your community?

 Individual Presentation about promoting volunteering

My organization is a home for elderly people in our community.  We are in search of volunteers in a number of activities.

1.      We need people to socialize with the elderly people.  You can come and play games or music for them.

2.      We need people to help clean up the place after activities.

*You are needed for a minimum of 1-2 hours a a week.  If you are interested, contact me at…….

Discussion Questions

*Are there things you have felt deprived of in some situations?

*What are in your opinion legitimate expectations people should have for their lives?  By that I mean, what are things all humans have a right to and should be angry if they don’t have that?
