MLS Sociology, Class 2

 By Nate Feldman

MLS Sociology: Asking for Elaboration

Nate: My life is so difficult.

Student: You mentioned that your life is so difficult.  Why is it so difficult?

Nate: I hate Alumni Hall.

Student: You said that you hate Alumni Hall.  Why do you hate it so much?

Nate: I won first prize for essay writing in high school.

Student: You said you won a prize for essay writing.  How did you do that?

Nate: LTC computers are old-fashioned.

Student: When you mentioned that LTC computers are old-fashioned, did you mean they have been here a long time?

Nate: My life is difficult.

Student: Could you elaborate on why your life is so difficult?

Nate: Let me elaborate.  First, I live 200 miles from here.  Second, I have too many responsibilities.

Example Lesson.  Make a lesson for the class.  Then, get with a group of three other students and teach it.  The other students should be prepared to ask the teacher to elaborate on the subject matter.  For example:

Today, I am going to teach you how to cook homemade chocolate sauce.  First, I go to the store, and I get a chocolate bar of some kind, and I also get heavy whipping cream.  Then, I go home…..

You said you get a chocolate bar.  How many chocolate bars do you need?

Oh, well, I think you need about 2 at most.  It depends on the serving.

Is it fair to say that this is the best way to make chocolate sauce?
