*Review counter-arguments:
Some people say that we should eat chocolate at every meal because it is delicious. While I agree that chocolate it is delicious, it is unadvisable to have it at every meal. As I have mentioned before, it is high in calories and sugar content, and if you eat too much of it, it will have negative effects on your health in a number of ways.
Argument: should or shouldn’t….
Reasons why you support that
Argument/Counterargument
Counterargument/Refutation
Should the government give the money of rich people to
poor people?
Yes: Yes, money should be equally to make sure there
is less inequality
No: People should keep the money they earned from the
work they have
Some people say that it is unfair to have the money
they worked hard for to be given to those who haven’t earned what they did at
their work. While it may seem unfair to
them that they are giving more of their hard earned money in taxes, in reality
they still have an overwhelming amount of the country’s money in their hands. In other words, their hard work is not going
unnoticed. It’s like the difference
between having $2 billion vs. 1.75 billion.
You are still pretty rich.
Some people argue that if we cancel days, it is a
wasted opportunity for students to learn their English. They came here to learn and paid good money,
so if they miss class, it’s a waste of time and finances. While I understand that losing a day may feel
like a waste of money, losing your life on a dangerous road is far worse. So, I feel empathy for them, but if the roads
are dangerous, we are staying closed.
Some people say that high taxes are going to
discourage people from working hard.
While I can see why some people have that sentiment because the wealthy
do pay the majority of the taxes, it is not going to punish their status in
society like they make you believe.
These taxes won’t make you from rich to poor.
Should ELS have
afternoon classes?
*Because we need to work on essay writing skills. We don’t get that in morning classes.
*Some students complain that they are too sleepy after
lunch and don’t want to be in class anymore.
While I can see that they are sleepy, it’s not like we are asking them
to stay until 7:30. It’s just two more
hours, so they should be strong and tolerate it.
The incidence
of violent crime in Philly is quite high.
There are too many violent incidences
in Philadelphia.
Should/shouldn’t…..
Should we have afternoon classes?
Yes, we should have afternoon classes.
*We need to work on our writing skills. It’s important, especially if we want to go
to a university here.
*I think 6 and a half hours of lessons is not too much
or too little. It’s a good balance.
*Some people say they are sleepy and want to take a
nap after the lunch period. While I
agree many students are sleepy, they can take a nap after 3:45. It’s still enough time to rest and do things
at night.
