Reading Passage:

This is Mark.  He went to a local café and got a blueberry muffin and a caramel latte.  When he began having them, he got a call from a friend Julia.  He asked her what she was eating, and she said a salad with a multi-grain bagel with some freshly squeezed orange juice.  When she asked him what he was having he mentioned the muffin and the latte.

Julia commented how everything he had was really sweet.  Mark conceded that he had a bit of a sweet tooth and was fond of sugary things, and that it may be a kind of addiction.  Julia corrected him and said not that it may be an addiction, but that it absolutely was.

Mark became a bit defensive.  Although he was aware of his cravings for sweets, he didn’t like Julia’s way of describing it to him.  He felt she was being a bit condescending.

Julia insisted she was just trying to encourage Mark to have a healthier lifestyle, but Mark rebutted by telling her to fix things in her life, such as her bad social skills since she often was overly opinionated with people about things she didn’t quite understand.

Julia told Mark he was overreacting, but Mark didn’t want to hear it.  They hung up on each other, and Mark decided to enjoy his meal in defiance.
